Orders of the day -
From Lt. Tony FuzieI appreciate those that took the time to vote for the future of the 14th Tennessee. Whether it was myself or Kermit who ended up commanding, both of us had the same desire in regards to seeing that the 14th will continue to have a future. The lessons I have learned over the years in various command positions have taught me to pick a few goals each year and make them happen instead of too many...applying the resources available to one or two specific goals. My major goal is to get all of you interested in supporting your unit through attendance and second, to recruit. The reason recruiting is not first: why recruit when there are so many members in the unit already, who have all the gear, don't have to be outfitted, and already now how to reenact. You can't recruit into a unit if there is no unit at the reenactment to recruit into. So, the first step is .
(continued below)
Unit live fire
There is going to be a unit live fire on Saturday February 19. It will be organized by Bobby Lloyd only if enough people can attend.
It will start around 11 am and end between 4-5 PM. We will most likely have dinner afterwards. It will also be held in uniform in the San Jaun Batista area.
You must notify Lt. Tony Fuzie by the end of January if you are interested in attending. You can e-mail him at
ALFUZ@aol.com or call him at 707-446-9869 before 8:30 PM daily. This should be a great time so I encourage all members of the 14th to attend.
NCWA Dues
Year 2000 NCWA membership dues are due at this time. Please try and send in your money before March 1st as the 14th will get a kick back for every member that sends in their dues before that time.
If you need registration forms please let 1st SGT. Dave Lund know and he will get them to you. You can contact him at
LundDavid@aol.com or 209-952-6157. Please send your money in soon. Thanks.Oakley Tactical
There will be a tactical event held at Oakley Ranch in and around the foothills outside Santa Maria. It will be held April 7-9.
Our very own Col. Mike Linehardt will be commanding company B. If you would like to fall in with him you can contact him at
Longstreet@aol.com or you can contact 1st SGT. Dave Lund at 209-952-6157 or 209 931-2470 or LundDavid@aol.comIf you have never been on a tactical before you should make it to this one. There is no Public, no scripted battles, no farbs. You will be issued rations on Friday for 3 days. You will march off Friday and march back Sunday. In between you will be looking for the enemy.
This is what the 14th impression is, a unit on campaign. I would like to see a lot of fellow possums try and make this event It is a great reenacting experience that you will not want to miss.
There is a web site with all the information on the event at:
http://home.earthlink.net/~coe2vt/oakhome.htmlYou will need to use a password to copy some forms. The password is
nofarbs.Hope you can make this event
(Lt. Fuzie Continued)
going to be you fellows want the unit to survive and the only way its going to do so is with your participation. Once we can show potential recruits that there is a unit to join, we will see that the enlistment forms are ready to go.
So, how do I get you interested in participating more? Well, lets start with the agenda for this year. Live fire in February participating with the ACWA at Knights Ferry and showing them how to do a campaign impression (impressed the hell out of them and a lot of us had fun last year and there is the possibility for recruits here) a possum initiation in April at the Mariposa event ( myself Col. Mike Linehardt and a few others) a tactical in April, and helping out the RACW at Nevada City in September. All this is in addition to the regular NCWA schedule. Are you expected to do all this? That's up to you, these are just a few more things to do as a unit and participate in the camaraderie that comes with it. I understand family and work commitments as I do have both. All your company asks is that you give what you can to keep it going.
You all can expect a few minor changes in the daytoday operation of the company, as my style of commanding will be different. I will not ask more out of any one of you than I am prepared to give myself. The one place you will find me very demanding and expecting everyone to do their job will be on the battlefield. As for changes in the unit, I do not expect anything on a grand scale nor will any be made without the guidance and input of your seasoned NCO's.
Speaking of NCO's, due to the rank ratio allotments there will only be two until further notice. They will be Dave Lund at 1st Sgt. and Jim Thompson at Cpl. As rank ratio improves we will add a 2nd Sgt. and a Cpl, these two ranks will be offered to individuals in the company based on attendance and willingness to get the job done. If numbers are there, we will incorporate these two positions.
One more item, as the Officer of the 14th Tennessee, if there are not enough of you to field a company during the events, I will ask another company to take you in and I will volunteer my services to Headquarters. I would rather be Provost or some other staff yeller dog position than play 2nd officer to someone else while they allowed remnants of the 14th to fill out their ranks and fight with them.
At one time, and fairly recently, the 14th was the premier campaign unit on the west coast. Are you ready to be there again?
Regards,
Lt. A.S. Fuzie, Commanding
14th Tennessee Co. B Volunteers
